I built TrueEdge because I got tired of backtests that made me feel like a genius right up until they lost my money. Every tool I tried was optimized to flatter me. None of them were built to disagree with me.
So I built the one I wanted: a miner that searches hard, and a validator that fights back. It seals a vault before it looks. It penalizes me for testing a thousand ideas. And when nothing survives, it says so. That sentence has saved me more money than any winning strategy ever did.
I can’t promise you an edge. Nobody honest can. What I can promise is that when TrueEdge says something is real, it earned that word.

Questions we refuse to dodge.
Is this financial advice?
No. TrueEdge is research software you run on your own computer. It doesn’t know your finances, doesn’t recommend trades, and doesn’t manage money. It’s a tool for testing your own ideas honestly. We are not a broker, an investment adviser, or a signal service. Nothing in the app or on this site is a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
Will it guarantee me an edge?
No, and be very suspicious of anything that says otherwise. Markets can change, past patterns can stop working, and no software can promise future profit. TrueEdge’s whole job is the opposite of a guarantee: it tries to disprove your edge, and only lets through what survives honest testing. Sometimes the honest answer is “nothing here.” That’s the point.
What exactly makes it “honest”?
Three things most backtesters skip: (1) a sealed out-of-sample vault: a slice of your data locked away before the search and opened only once; (2) the Deflated Sharpe Ratio, which penalizes a result for how many patterns were tested to find it; and (3) walk-forward validation through time. Together they filter out results that only look good by luck.
Does my data leave my machine?
No. TrueEdge is a desktop application. Your CSVs, your results, and your discovered edges are processed and stored locally on your PC. We don’t upload your data, and we can’t see it. The only network calls are the optional free data fetchers (Binance’s public data API for crypto, Stooq/Yahoo for stocks/ETF/FX) that pull market data in, and a periodic license check with Gumroad (it tolerates going offline; see the offline question below).
What are the system requirements?
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). ~8 GB RAM recommended. The full CPU engine ships to everyone and runs on any modern Windows PC. A GPU Edition (bundles CUDA) for supported NVIDIA cards is rolling out: once installed, TrueEdge auto-detects the GPU for a large speed-up (up to ~137M trade-sims/sec), but a GPU is not required. macOS/Linux are not supported at launch.
What’s your refund policy?
All sales are final. That’s exactly why the Free tier exists: download TrueEdge, run it on your own machine with your own data, and make sure it does what you need before you pay. Pro’s first week is free at checkout, so even the paid tier starts at $0. Subscriptions can be cancelled anytime (access runs to the end of the paid period), and genuine billing errors are always corrected; email [email protected]. See the Sales & Billing Policy.
What’s the difference between Free, Pro, and Lifetime?
Free gives you the real engine with daily limits and one instrument, enough to find your first pattern and confirm it runs. Pro ($299/mo, or $1,999/yr) unlocks everything, cancel anytime, and the first week is free at checkout. Lifetime ($2,999) unlocks everything forever, every update including future major versions, with no recurring bill.
How does the Pro free week work?
Subscribe to Pro (monthly or annual) and Gumroad charges $0 today; your card is only billed after 7 days. You get the full Pro unlock immediately: unlimited runs, every validation gate, all fetchers. Cancel any time in the first week from your Gumroad account and you pay nothing. Between the Free tier (no card, forever) and the free first week on Pro, you can prove TrueEdge on your own data before a dollar moves.
Can I use my own data / any market?
Yes. Import any CSV: stocks, futures, FX, crypto, any timeframe. TrueEdge also has built-in free fetchers: crypto via Binance’s public market-data API, and stocks / ETFs / FX via Stooq with an automatic Yahoo fallback; no API keys needed for any of them. A bundled demo dataset lets you start immediately. (For US users, crypto data is fetched through Binance’s public data mirror automatically.)
How do I cancel?
Manage or cancel your Pro membership anytime from your Gumroad receipt/account: no email, no phone call, no “retention specialist.” Your access continues to the end of the paid period.
Do I need to be a quant or coder?
No. The app is point-and-click: import data, tune a few parameters, run, read the ranked results and the verdict. The hard statistics (DSR, vault, walk-forward) run under the hood. Knowing basic trading concepts helps you interpret results, but no coding is required.
Do I need to be online, and what if Gumroad is down?
Your research runs fully offline; you only need a connection to fetch market data or to activate/renew your license. If a license check can’t reach Gumroad (a flight, a VPN, a corporate firewall, a Gumroad outage), TrueEdge keeps working normally in an offline grace period, about 7 days for Pro subscriptions and 30 days for Lifetime, with a small “offline, reconnect” note. Beyond that you’ll need to reconnect once to re-verify.
